Denial, Deception and Disinformation
November 17, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm$750.00
The ancient Chinese philosopher Sun Tzu wrote that “All warfare is deception.” Twenty five centuries later, British General Dudley Clarke expanded upon that in a briefing to Allied commanders: “The key to deception is not ‘what do you want the enemy to do’ but ‘what do you want the enemy to think.'”
Disinformation is rife in today’s connected world. It impacts everything; from our perceptions and decisions to national security. In an organizational context, disinformation can result in flawed analysis and decision-making; threatening personnel safety, security, operations, revenue and reputation.
This course is designed for individuals who are on the frontlines of processing and responding to information that impacts their organization. Communications, PR, security, government affairs, crisis management professionals and executive leadership will benefit from this one day training. We will start the day learning a brief history of denial and deception, how it has evolved to the modern day and how to identify and combat it in your organization.
Then, we will finish the day understanding how the past is the present with an inter-active role-playing game. Here participants will don the mantle of famous – and infamous – commanders who by use of the techniques of deception and discovery will determine the future of Nazi-occupied Europe.
Topics covered will include:
- Denial and deception concepts and application in the real world
- How disinformation affects us in an organizational context
- Tools and techniques for understanding disinformation
- State and non-state actor use of disinformation
- Historical use of denial, deception and disinformation and how it relates to today
